SRSG Forbids Serbia to Issue Vehicle Registration Documents

Belgrade, Glas Javnosti, Jan 31 - The Chief of UNMIK Sřren Jessen-Petersen has released an “executive order” forbidding the Serbian authorities to issue registration documents for vehicles from the territory of Kosovo. The SRSG has announced that, as of 1 July 2005 all vehicles bearing the Serbian license plates PR, PZ, KM, PE, GL and DJ will be banned from renewing registration on these license plates, as well as from driving on the territory under UNMIK’s jurisdiction.

However, UNMIK will regard as valid the Serbian registration documents issued by “a competent Serbian authorities in Serbia proper, i.e. ‘outside Kosovo’. UNMIK has left a possibility open for all citizens of Kosovo to hand over the old vehicle registration documents to the empowered authorities in Kosovo by 30 June 2005, and get new ones along with ‘KS’ license plates. According to UNMIK, the whole procedure will be absolutely free of administrative taxes.
