Kosovo Serb official urges new constitution that lays claim to Kosovo. BETA

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, Feb. 22, 2005 (BETA) - An association bringing together Serb settlements and municipalities in Kosovo issued a call on Feb. 21 to politicians and officials urging them to reach agreement "on the adoption of a new constitution that will clearly state that Kosovo and Metohija is an integral part of Serbia " as soon as possible.
"The adoption of a new constitution is the only way to put an end to the secession of Kosovo and Metohija and the creation of an independent Albanian state," stressed Marko Jaksic, chairman of the group, at a news conference in the town of Kosovska Mitrovica .
Jaksic emphasized that riots that broke out last March and targeted Kosovo Serbs will not be repeated because of the need to enforce international standards. "The Albanians want to depict the situation is better than it really is, so as to create conditions for an independent Kosovo," said Jaksic, adding that they are being assisted in this by Serb representatives who have agreed to take part in government.
