Leposavic unions to block road to protest Belgrade 's silence

LEPOSAVIC, Feb. 22, 2005 (BETA) - Unions representing 11 socially-owned and state-run companies from the town of Leposavic have pledged to block a main road leading from Kosovska Mitrovica to Raska between the villages of Jarinja and Rudnica on an everyday basis from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The move comes after officials in Belgrade ignored their demands, including those dealing with the privatization of the companies in which they are employed. The unions want ownership of the companies ceded to their employees.

They are also calling on Belgrade to give all Serbs working for the state in Kosovo a special bonus, recognition of currently unrecorded years of employment, and child support for every child in Kosovo.
