RECONSTRUCTION IMPLEMENTATION COMISSION

STATUS REPORT OF THE RECONSTRUCTION WORKS 2006

Francisco Montańés. Project Manager, RIC Technical Unit.

3 November 2006

Following the successful completion of a programme of protection and consolidation measures in 31 sites during 2005, the Reconstruction Implementation Commission (RIC) programmed a second phase of extensive reconstruction works in eight different sites to be carried out during 2006.

During the first few months of the year, the work focused on completing the financial obligations of the RIC, setting up a Technical Unit to support the RIC work, preparing a programme and a budget for the new year, reviewing the RIC Terms of Reference, and preparing specifications for the new interventions.

The RIC held its first 2006 meeting in May. Since then, it has been meeting on a monthly basis to agree the reconstruction works and to make all the related relevant decisions.

The projects were prepared by the Serbian Institutes for the Protection of Monuments during the first half of the year. The reconstruction works were tendered in four different rounds between June and October.

The first reconstruction works on site started in July 2006 in the Church of the Holy Virgin Ljeviska, in Prizren. The last tendered works are expected to start next week. All the works are expected to be completed during the first half of December.
