Serb teenager wounded in Kosovo

A Serb teenager, Dragomir Jovanovic (17) was wounded today in a drive-by shooting in central Kosovo near Pristina, Kosovo police and local Serbian sources confirmed.

The victim was hit on the left arm and his condition is not life-threatening, said Dr. Dragan Peric, from Simonida hospital in the nearby Serbian village of Gracanica. He confirmed that the state of the young man is stable.

The Serb teenager was shot at from a passing dark red Audi A4 on the regional road in the ethnically mixed village of Susica, 10 km east from Pristina.

According to the statement of the victim's father Momir Jovanovic, the young man was on his way to the local school library and the attack occured 100 meters away from the school building. According to eye witnesses the car with attackers sped towards Pristina.

Another 17 year old Serb teenager Dimitrije Popovic was killed in nearby Gracanica village in a similar drive-by shooting on June 5, 2004. After the police investigation an international prosecutor charged two ethnic Albanians for the murder and unauthorized possesion of weapons. Popovic was killed by a AK-47 rifle standing at a hamburger shop, 3 km away from the location on which occured the today's incident.

The police investigation is continuing.
