In
the presence of a large number of believers Bishop Artemije of
Raska-Prizren and Kosovo-Metohija consecrated the Serbian Orthodox Church
of St. George in Zvecan yesterday. "Several years after the end of the
war, this church has welcomed the day of its consecration so that it may
serve God and ourselves, so that we may visit it, marry and be christened
in it and bid farewell to our dear ones from it as they leave us for the
Kingdom of Christ," said Bishop Artemije, thanking all those who helped
build St. George's Church in Zvecan.
Today, on the feast day of St. Basil of Ostrog the Miracle-Worker, Bishop
Artemije and his priests and monks have consecrated a church dedicated to
St. Basil in Leposavic, in northern Kosovo and Metohija, designed by
architect Ljubisa Folic. At least 2000 believers from throughout Kosovo
and Metohija, as well as from Serbia and Montenegro attended the ceremony.
The organizational committee has prepared a rich cultural and art program
to mark the event.
The iconostasis and icons for St. Basil of Ostrog Church were made by the
monks of Visoki Decani Monastery, who have also participated in the
festivities along with representatives of other monastic communities of
the Diocese.
In order to strengthen church life in the northern part of the Province,
the Diocese of Raska-Prizren and Kosovo-Metohija, in collaboration with
the Coordinating Center in Belgrade, the Ministry of Culture of the
Republic of Serbia and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural
Monuments in Belgrade soon plans to begin the renewal of St. Stephen's
Monastery in Banjska, near Zvecan, one of the greatest pious endowments of
the Holy King Milutin (XIV cent.). The monastery residence hall and the
paraklis where Holy Liturgy will be regularly served are expected to be
built over the next several months.

BELGRADE
-- Monday -- DOS chairman Momcilo Trajkovic told daily Blic that the
ruling coalition has backed a proposal which will see the formation of a
state council for Kosovo.
The council will be comprised of officials of Serbia and the state union
and members are set to include Serbia-Montenegro President Svetozar
Marovic, Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Zivkovic, acting Serbian President
Natasa Micic, federal Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic, Serbian Interior
Minister Dusan Mihajlovic and Coordination Centre for Kosovo head Nebojsa
Covic.
Trajkovic said that the council should also include Raska-Prizren Bishop
Artemije, head of the MP caucus of the Kosovo-Serb Return Coalition,
Dragisa Krstovic, members of the Serb National Council and Montenegrin
representatives.
According to Trajkovic, the Council is being formed with the goal of
ensuring that “a serious institution deals with the issue of Kosovo,
rather than individuals”.
